AutoCAD Tips - Mid Between 2 Points

Almost every drawing you produce you will need to either find the mid point between to points or draw something between two points. This is where Mid Between 2 Points comes in!

Often in the office I see engineers drawing a line from one point to another and then selecting the mid point of this line to allow them to find the mid point of the two points. With this nice little tip all you will need to do is right click and pick the 2 points maximising your efficiency!

Example:

This command can and should be used in almost all drawings for example to find the centre of a ceiling grid tile.

However to demonstrate the command, I am going to place a circle in the middle of a square.

We start off by typing Circle into the command line.

Next, we hold Shift and Right click anywhere within the drawing. You will see the menu as shown below.

Select Mid Between 2 Points (as highlighted above).

Now you can select the first point as shown

Once you have selected this mid-point (by clicking the left mouse button) you can now select the opposite side of the square

You have selected your 2 points, this has centred the circle in the middle of the square.

As shown below, you can select the radius of your circle, I have chosen to take the radius to the midpoint of the square.

This will draw your circle in the centre of the square, at the desired radius which has been specified. This will save you time and effort in creating drawing.

Below is a summary of the command line.

Command: circle
Specify center point for circle or [3P/2P/Ttr (tan tan radius)]: m2p
First point of mid: (pick first point)
Second point of mid: (pick second point)
Specify radius of circle or [Diameter] <20.000>: (pick to complete circle)
